Seattle in Motion: A New Perspective in Time Lapse
This video was created from around 3600 individual photos shot in the spring, summer, and fall. After several years and hundreds of sequences of traditional time lapse, I was looking for a way to challenge myself and grow. I started learning to capture in the motion time lapse (hyperlapse) technique, where I move the camera slightly --usually around 12 inches (~30 cm) -- for hundreds of times (between every interval). This creates an artificial parallax, and it was exciting to explore this new way of thinking, seeing, moving, and capturing.
So much of this area revolves and reflects around the water, so much of this new piece reflects that reality -- This collection includes about 6,000 still images in 12 sets.
Seattle is also known as the Emerald City. This new video piece is a showreel collection of Seattle sets over the last year.
For most photographers, the hours around dawn or dusk are the most exciting times of day.
These are some of my best time lapse sequences from these past winter months, mostly featuring locations from around the city and on the water.
Mt. Rainier in the state of Washington is one of the Cascade volcanoes that generates some amazing, other-worldly clouds. Because it is so high (over 14,400 feet / 4300 meters) it acts like a giant rock in the atmosphere. Winds blowing over the top sometimes form wave clouds (also called lenticular clouds)…
